A pioneering AR app to demonstrate the perfect pour


Working closely with award-winning creative agency Space, Bulmers asked us for an innovative solution to enlighten target drinkers and bar staff about the perfect Bulmers cider.

Using cutting-edge Augmented Reality technology, we created a pioneering mobile app to deliver Bulmers' guidelines for the 'perfect pour' direct to smartphones and iPads. By pointing the app at their glass, users activate dynamic serving instructions that show them how to pour the perfect Bulmers — wherever they were. The app also lets users locate their nearest Bulmers pub, and browse Bulmers' showcase of cider flavours.


The campaign rolled out across 10,000 on-trade outlets and major supermarkets, through POS kits, sampling and digital channels.

The app was downloaded thousands of times, and we were proud to see it praised among developer circles for its technical achievements.

It was actually the world's first AR app to achieve real-time reflection and refraction effects. Looking back on this now (several years on) we realise just how advanced and ground-breaking this app was for its time in 2012!
